Build and Design
The Logitech MX Master 4 keeps the sculpted right-hand shape that has defined the MX line, then reworks the thumb area. The single gesture button is gone. In its place is a wider, flatter haptic panel under the thumb pad. Press it and a radial menu called the Actions Ring appears on screen. The palm arch, finger grooves, and thumb rest are otherwise close to the 3S.
A small haptic motor inside the body vibrates for menu selections, scroll boundaries, and custom triggers. The intensity is adjustable in Logi Options+ and can be switched off. Logitech lists the weight at around 150g, a little more than the 141g MX Master 3S. It is not a light mouse, and it is not trying to be.
The finish is a soft-touch matte in graphite or pale grey, with a Mac edition and a business edition also available. Charging is USB-C, and the rated battery life is around 70 days. It launched in September 2025 at around $129; check the current price.
Performance and Daily Use
The 8,000 DPI Darkfield sensor tracks on glass and any normal desk surface. The MagSpeed scroll wheel is unchanged: ratchet clicks for line-by-line reading, then a free-spinning mode that runs through a thousand lines in about a second. The horizontal thumb wheel returns for wide spreadsheets and timelines.
The Actions Ring is the reason the mouse exists. It shows a wheel of shortcuts that changes per application, configured in Logi Options+. Flick to a segment, feel a haptic pulse, release, done. After a few days it becomes faster than reaching for keyboard chords in Photoshop, Premiere, or Excel. Options+ also handles Smart Actions macros, button remapping, and Flow for dragging the cursor between two computers.
Wireless uses Bluetooth or the Logi Bolt receiver. Logitech claims a stronger Bolt radio than the 3S. Up to three devices pair at once, with a switch button on the underside.
Who Should Buy It
Buy the MX Master 4 if you spend your day in applications with long shortcut lists: video editors, designers, spreadsheet analysts, and developers who remap constantly. The Actions Ring and haptics turn the thumb into a second shortcut layer, the one gain the 3S cannot match.
It is also the pick for anyone whose MX Master 3S drops connection in a busy office. The improved Bolt radio addresses that directly.
Who Should Skip It
Skip it if you already own a 3S and rarely touch Options+. The sensor, scroll wheel, and clicks are the same, so you would be paying for a menu you may never open. The 3S regularly sells for $79 to $99.
Skip it for gaming. The weight and shape are wrong for fast aiming; the Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 DEX is the answer there. And skip it if you are left-handed, because there is still no left-handed MX Master.
