Build and Design

The Keychron Q6 Max is a full-size 100% layout aluminum mechanical keyboard. The layout includes the numpad, function row, navigation cluster, and arrow keys. Nothing is omitted or hidden behind layers.

The CNC-machined aluminum frame uses the same construction standard as the rest of the Q series. At around 2 kg, the board stays fixed on the desk. The matte surface finish resists fingerprints.

The gasket mount suspends the switch plate on silicone gaskets. This isolates keypress vibration from the case and produces a softer, cushioned typing sound. The difference compared to a tray-mount or top-mount board is clear from the first keypress.

The board ships in black and white colorways with various switch options. A 2.4 GHz dongle slot on the underside stores the wireless receiver.

Performance and Daily Use

The Q6 Max ships with Gateron G Pro switches in red (linear), brown (tactile), or blue (clicky). The gasket mount elevates the sound profile of any switch option.

QMK and VIA firmware support is the standout software feature. QMK is the most widely used open-source keyboard firmware. VIA provides a real-time graphical layer editor. Every key, every layer, and every macro is remappable without flashing new firmware.

Tri-mode wireless covers USB-C wired, 2.4 GHz dongle for low-latency wireless, and Bluetooth 5.1 for up to three paired devices. Switching between paired devices uses function key combinations. The 2.4 GHz connection is responsive for typing and casual gaming.

The hot-swap PCB accepts MX-compatible switches. Switch changes require a puller but no soldering. Starting with red switches and switching to browns or tactiles later is a five-minute task.

Battery life with backlighting off is competitive with other Q series keyboards. With backlighting on at medium brightness, expect 60 to 80 hours.

Who Should Buy It

The Q6 Max is right for users who need a full-size layout and want premium gasket-mount typing quality. If you use the numpad daily for data entry, financial work, or shortcuts, this keyboard delivers all of it with wireless freedom.

It is also right for users who want full QMK/VIA control. Every key is programmable. The Q6 Max rewards the setup time.

Who Should Skip It

Skip the Q6 Max if your desk space is limited. The full 100% layout is a large footprint. The Keychron Q1 Ultra in 75% layout provides the same gasket mount and wireless for less space.

Skip it if you want gaming-grade competitive performance. The Q6 Max does not have Hall Effect switches or rapid trigger. The Wooting 80HE handles that use case.
